Death and Return of Superman
- The Superman Statue was erected in Centennial Park as a memorial for Superman following his death while stopping Doomsday, an artificial lifeform created by a Kryptonian scientist long before its destruction.
- Meant to be the Ultimate form of life, he was purposefully killed only for the scientist to resurrect him by putting together whatever pieces survived, in an attempt to create a stronger, more resistant version of him. The Ultimate eventually developed the natural ability of enduring any threats he faced in prior lives without further technological intervention, killed all the scientists in the lab (including his creator), escaped ancient Krypton. The indestructible being eventually found its way to Earth, where he faced the Justice League America*, Superman included. They fought an epic battle that culminated with Superman sacrificing himself to stop Doomsday from destroying all living beings on Earth. He was buried in Centennial Park next to his statue.
- Jonathan Kent, Superman's father, briefly died due to a heart attack triggered the grief of losing his only son). He meets with his son in the afterlife and convinces him to return to the world of living. Superman's essence returned to his body just when the Eradicator (an ancient Kryptonian living weapon created by one of Kal-El's anscetors) attempted possess his body. As Kal-El's body was not an empty shell anymore, the Eradicator took him to the Fortress of Solitude, placing him within a Kryptonian Regeneration Matrix so he could use Superman to absorb the Sun's power. However the Matrix could not contain that amount of power and broke open, allowing the weakened Superman to escape.

- The Martian Invasion Plaque was created to memorialise an attempted invasion of Earth by White Martians.
- One day, a mysterious flying saucer arrived near the White House, and the president of the United States called for the Justice League*. Superman arrived just as the saucer laid eight metallic eggs, and out of them came a group of superpowerful aliens who called themselves the Hyperclan. They claimed to be from a planet that had been destroyed by its own inhabitants, and their mission was to prevent other planets from meeting the same fate by fixing them. Humanity immediately accepted the group's intervention, but the League got suspicious of their intentions. The Hyperclan's first act was to transform the Sahara Desert into an Eden, skyrocketing their popularity. Superman advised people to take a more cynical approach to the newcomers, but he is accused of being envious, as the Hyperclan was able to fix the world in a way the superheroes never could. When the Hyperclan started executing villains, the supercrime figures decreased dramatically.
- In space, the Justice League Refuge is attacked by beings that seem to have materialized outside the station. They attacked the satellite's hull, and Wonder Woman and Green Lantern Kyle Rayner (a recent addition to the team after having worked with the Titans) go outside to stop them. Metamorpho decided to use his body as a shuttle to save Icemaiden, Nuklon, and Obsidian. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern were unable to prevent the destruction of Refuge, and the team that had escaped to Earth managed to survive - except for Metamorpho, who was deemed "inert" after the impact. In the Antarctic, the Hyperclan unearths a Martian city named Z'onn Z'orr.
- The JLA blamed the Hyperclan for the attack, who denied any involvement, accusing the League of manufacturing a confrontation. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern reunite with Batman, Flash, and Martian Manhunter in the Secret Sanctuary in Rhode Island ( Aquaman ignores the call). Batman suspected that the Hyperclan had been using radio frequencies to control the minds of Earth's population, which Superman is able to confirm — it's a planned invasion, and they're actively turning the world against the Justice League. Meanwhile, two stations mysteriously appear - one in Mongolia's Gobi Desert, and another above the Pacific Ocean near Midway Island. After some investigation, Superman confirmed that the flying saucer in Washington was nothing more than a projection. They split to tackle the three structures, but the Martian sneaked away to have a meeting with Protex, Hyperclan's leader, deciding to join them. Flash and Green Lantern find that the frequencies are being transmitted from the dozens of ships hidden in hyperspace. The League is captured and taken to Z'onn Z'orr, and Batman is believed to be dead. The Dark Knight figured out what kind of aliens they were dealing with: Martians; he invades the city and takes down four of the Hyperclan members with fire. After that, the Martians decide to begin the invasion early.
- Once Superman heard people asking for help all over the world, he asked himself why he wasn't dead already, as the kryptonite the Hyperclan was using to weaken him should have killed him at that point. Then, he realized that all metahumans with fire powers got sick, and that their powers are the same as Martian Manhunter's - who reveals himself as one of the members in disguise, the real one still in the desert. They free the rest of the League, and the team defeats the remaining members of the clan. Superman transmits a message to let the world know they can repel the invasion using fire. People all over the world light up matches and lighters, and the White Martians retreat. The League gets to the Still Zone, where the Whites' ships were hidden, and Martian Manhunter brainwashes them into believing they are humans and sends them to live on Earth as ordinary people.

- The Vanishing Plaque was created to memorialise an incident where a million people mysteriously disappeared from the planet.
- While Superman was in space helping Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, one million people disappeared from various locations around the globe, including his wife, Lois Lane. The feelings of guilt (for being absent during the event) and grief (for losing Lois) dominated him. While dealing with a conflict in a Middle Eastern country, he found the weapon responsible for the Vanishing: a strange metallic sphere used by the revolutionary forces, granted to them by an unknown benefactor along with a living weapon named Equus. Equus went rogue when Superman attempted to confiscate the weapon, attacking the hero before activating the machine for the second time - causing the world to blink, and 300,000 people to disappear, including himself. As Superman was the only witness to the event, the other members of the Justice League* suspected him of his part in the event, but gave him a chance. Back in the Fortress of Solitude, he studied the device and found out it was a creation of his own.
- Worried about the future of the Earth might be similar to Krypton's, Superman had decided to create an idyllic dimension inside the Phantom Zone (created by his biological father, Jor-El), a refuge that he named Metropia, and only Lois was aware of its existence. Once he had stepped into that new world, he concluded that no man, super or not, has the right to create such a thing. Lois had convinced him that the place should be preserved, but as a secret between the two of them. Superman created automatons in the likeness of his biological parents and his civilian identity to serve as guardians, then sent them and the key (the metallic sphere), and erased his own memories related to the project. But the key was found...by General Zod. Zod was the one behind the Vanishing - it was all a plan to reach Superman so he could kill him.
- Superman fixed the key so it won't teleport people randomly, and entered Metropia with no intention of returning. Reuniting with Lois and the automatons, he learned that Zod wants to rule the place, and he now has Equus on his side. As the two Kryptonians fought, Superman realized that each hit they dealt to each other damaged the very world he created - both of them were part of the fabric of Metropia. He uses the key to open a portal so people can escape the destruction. Superman tries to save Zod, but the villain is sucked deeper into the Phantom Zone. The people who survive Zod's attack return to Earth, reverting the Vanishing.

- By the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, only one Earth remained. There was only one positive universe, known as New Earth, and an Antimatter Universe. The Multiverse no longer existed. All counterparts of each person in an alternative reality became one, with the exception of four refugees: Alex Luthor from Earth-Three, Superboy-Prime from Earth-Prime (not to be confused with Prime Earth), and Superman (Kal-L) and Lois Lane-Kent from Earth-Two. Alex created a timeless crystalline pocket-dimension for them from which they could watch the past of former Earths, as well as observe the heroes of New Earth, and judged them undeserving of being the version preserved in the new universe, a universe that they allowed to become more and more evil. On top of that, Lois Kent was suffering from a mysterious degenerative disease. They decided they had to recreate the multiverse to get rid of the tainted Earth and save Lois - or at least that was what Alex Luthor wanted them to believe; his real plan was to recreate the multiverse so he could combine elements of each of them to make a perfect Earth. For that, they operated in secrecy throughout the universe to spread chaos and contempt, took over the Brother Eye satellite, and built a tower in the Fortress of Solitude out of the Anti-Monitor's dead body to work as a cosmic tuning fork powered by super beings who are originally from different Earths: Martian Manhunter (Earth-One), Power Girl (Earth-Two), Black Adam (Earth-S), Nightshade (Earth-Four), Lady Quark (Earth-Six), Breach (Earth-Eight), and The Ray (Earth-X).

- The Superboy Statue was erected as a memorial for Superboy following his death during Infinite Crisis.
- Superboy-Prime (Kal-El) came from Earth-Prime, a version of the very that is very similar to ours - DC Comics is a real publishing company, and all of the characters in the DC Universe are fictional, including Superman. Expect that the planet Krypton actually existed, and it was about to be destroyed by its red sun. The scientists Jor-El and Lara decided to save their son Kal-El by sending him away. Kal-El materialized in a forest in a New England seacoast town, where he was found by computer programmer Jerry Kent and attorney Naomi Clarke Kent. The couple adopted the toddler and named him after Superman's civilian identity, Clark. He grew up without superpowers until his teenage years, when he pretended to be Superman and found out he was actually able to fly like his namesake. But that coincided with the Crisis of Infinite Earths, and Earth-Prime was destroyed, but Superboy-Prime was saved by the Monitor.
- The years Superboy-Prime spent in the pocket-dimension caused him homesickness and to resent the heroes of New Earth, as they were deeply flawed in comparison to the fictional heroes of his Earth. He especially envied Superboy's life: Conner had a family, friends, a girlfriend, and a life, but wasn't a real hero; he carried the genes of Lex Luthor. Superboy-Prime attacks Superboy, beating him and Krypto badly, but they are rescued by the Titans, the Doom Patrol, and the Justice Society - as Superboy-Prime didn't have much experience with his own powers, he ended up maiming and brutally murdering some of the heroes, until he was stopped by the male speedsters: Wally West, Jay Garrick, and Kid Flash ran the enraged villain into the Speed Force, where they were aided by the souls of Barry Allen, Johnny Quick, and Max Mercury. Superboy is placed in a healing chamber by Lex Luthor, who gave him a crystal from the pocket dimension that could point to the location of Alex Luthor's tower. Meanwhile, Superboy-Prime escaped the speedsters, and Alex Luthor began to split the Earths and test them. Superman and Lois returned to their Earth-Two, but she died anyway; Kal-L blamed Superman from New Earth for her death, but Wonder Woman intervenes and they have a conversation that made Kal-L realize that he was used by Alex Luthor.
- Still weakened, Superboy leaves the chamber to help Nightwing get to the tower so they can disable it, and Wonder Girl joins them there. The trio faces a legion of OMACs, and they're able to free the prisoners. That's when Superboy-Prime arrives. He reveals to Luthor that the Flashes had traveled back in time and imprisoned him under a red sun, and he used parts of the Anti-Monitor to build himself an armor that feeds him yellow sunlight. As they fought away from the tower, the former prisoners were sent back to their respective Earths. The Superboys had a rematch that ended with Conner grabbing Superboy-Prime and the two flying towards the tower, causing an explosion that pulled all of the Earths back together into a single one. Conner stayed alive for long enough to know he saved the universe before succumbing to the injuries.

- The Battle of Metropolis Memorial was created to memorialise the final, colossal battle between Earth's heroes and villains in Metropolis at the end of the Infinite Crisis.
- The Society gathered every villain and declared war on the heroes - if they were able to conquer Metropolis, the rest of the world would fall too. That was Alex Luthor's contingency plan; since he couldn't build the perfect world by combining multiple Earths, he would take over New Earth and make it perfect by force. Heroes and villains fight each other, but the only thing Superboy-Prime wanted was his Earth-Prime back. With the tower destroyed, that was impossible, so he decided he was going to fly through Oa at the speed of light to trigger another Big Bang, so the universe would restart, and he would be the only one with superpowers. Martian Manhunter read his mind and called for the heroes who could fly after Superboy-Prime to stop him. The Green Lanterns were able to slow him down just in time for the two Supermen to put their plan in action. They flew Superboy across Krypton's remains (made of Kryptonite), then through the red sun, until they landed on Mogo. The weakened Kryptonians continued to fight; Superboy killed Superman from Earth-Two, but Superman of New Earth was able to defeat the villain just as the cavalry arrived. The Green Lanterns and Donna Troy trapped Superboy-Prime inside a junior red-sun eater surrounded by a quantum containment field, with fifty Lanterns watching him incessantly.
- Back in Metropolis, Batman defeated Deathstroke. When Alex Luthor hurt Nightwing, Batman took Deathstroke pistol and pointed it at Alex. Wonder Woman breaks her sword and convinces Batman that killing Luthor is not worth it. As they walk away, an avalanche of rubble buries Luthor, but the two heroes are not sure he's dead. With Superboy-Prime and Alex Luthor out, the heroes won the Battle of Metropolis. A few days later, the reconstruction began.
- Alex Luthor didn't die during the battle. He managed to get to Gotham City with the intention of trying to "save" the Earth again. But he underestimated the nemesis of two of the greatest heroes. Alex Luthor was ambushed in an alley by Lex Luthor and the Joker. While Lex wanted revenge from Alex for impersonating him, the Joker was the one who was madder for being invited to the party. The Joker melted half of his face with acid and shot him in the face, ending his life.

- The Booster Gold Memorial was created to memorialise Booster Gold following his apparent death while containing the explosion of a nuclear submarine within Metropolis.
- After going through a series of unfortunate events, including the termination of his sponsorship contract with Ferris Aircraft and losing the spotlight to the new hero, Supernova, Booster Gold asked Skeets to search history for a threat he could face to recover his reputation in Metropolis. Skeets found out that a nuclear submarine would crash in Metropolis Midtown on that very same day.
- But the nuclear submarine is only part of the problem. Ballostro, a monstrous sea creature, attached itself to the ship to hunt prey on land. Booster Gold engaged him in a disastrous battle that resulted in Superman Statue losing its head, a blackout, and infrastructural damage. Soon, Supernova arrives to help. To Booster's chagrin, he gets rid of Ballostro and provides light for the people in the area. After being hostilized by the very people he was trying to save, Supernova called him "a billboard" and his heroic acts nothing but "stunts", and that was when Booster Gold finally snapped, attacking his rival. The duo threw punches and insults at each other until they were interrupted by Skeets, who warned them about the damage the creature caused to the submarine's nuclear engine, leaving it on the brink of explosion. Attempting to have all the glory to himself, Booster used the technology of his suit to engulf both him and the submarine in a force-field to contain the explosion, raising the structure high enough to avoid more damage - but the blast that followed was too powerful. Supernova caught his body before he could hit the ground, but a skeleton in a supersuit was all that remained of the disgraced hero.
- A few months later, Booster Gold returned, revealing that Rip Hunter had switched him with his actual future corpse right before the explosion, placing him 12 weeks back in time so he could help Rip prepare to face a bigger threat. Supernova was him all along, a disguise that allowed him to coexist with his past-self without being detected.
