Overview
- This subject has been replaced or otherwise rendered obsolete by various updates, downloadable content packages, or general system upgrades.
- A World is the term used to refer to a Computer Server that Players use to access DC Universe Online.
- Also known as a " Game World" or simply a " Server", in order to play DC Universe Online players must first choose a "Game World" to play on.
- With 26 individual Game Worlds to choose from, these worlds were divided between Area Coverage (US or EU), Platform (PC or PS3) and Game Mode ( PvE or PvP).
- Following August 11, 2011, these 26 Servers were integrated into the larger MegaServers and were henceforth cut from the game.

- Game Worlds serve to effectively spread the population of an MMORPG across multiple computer servers to avoid various glitches and errors that occur with overcrowding on a server. Each World is a duplicated world; they are effectively exactly the same as each other but for Player Population and, if applicable, play style (eg PvE, PvP).
- DC Universe Online allowed for two different play-styles:
- PvE - Player vs. Environment; players could only attack computer characters and could not attack each other unless in a specific mission or arena.
- PvP - Player vs. Player; players could attack computer characters as well as players on a opposing faction at any time they wished.
- In addition the DCUO Player Community selected certain Worlds to unofficially serve additional play-styles.
- RP-PvE - Roleplaying version of a PvE world; where players would actively role-play as their characters as if they were actual characters in the game. Additional behavior and naming rules apply.
- RP-PvP - Roleplaying version of a PvP world; where players would actively role-play as their characters as if they were actual characters in the game. Additional behavior and naming rules apply.

Trivia
- The concept of multiple "duplicate-worlds" for players to exist in is a common strategy in modern Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games. It serves to lighten the strain a massive player population would have on the technology used to keep the game operating.
- The Multiverse; an integral concept in DC Universe lore, is similar to the concept of multiple servers for a game.
- Server Emblems were issued to players as compensation following the move from individual Servers to MegaServers on mid-August, 2011. These emblems represent whichever individual server the player was using before the move.
- The move from several independent servers to MegaServers would have caused some multiple player names in the merged game world. Players who had the same name as another player, but less playing time were given an own underscore. So if you hear the same music every time a certain player character appears, it is somebody who lost his name once.
