- Original system with equipment mods still available
- The Head Equipment Mods are Tactical Mods, also know as White Mods. Head Equipment Mods are not general purpose mods, but are for one specific power only. Head Equipment Mods increase Critical Attack Chance or restore either supercharge or power.
- These mods were first introduced with game update 63.

- Head Equipment Mods do not have to be assembled through Research and Development, but come ready to be used via the base dispenser which gives a capsule that allows you to choose one of the following via Loot Picker.

- Until game update 85 socketed mods could be recovered with a Tactical Mod Removal Kit. Since their availability is no longer limited, this option became superfluous.
- Critical and Supercharged mods could originally be found in Time Capsules, Energized mods could be found in Qwardian Time Capsules.
