Overview

  • Lethal attack, sometimes known as Special attack, Massive attack or Skull attack, is an ability used by some enemies that is signified by a skull sign above them moments before they unleash the attack, allowing players to prepare, dodge, defend against or interrupt them. If the opponent using a Lethal attack is outside of view, the skull sign would instead appear on the side of the screen, pointing to the left or right depending on where the opponent is (and both if they are directly behind you).
  • Brainiac Overseer on the Brainiac Harvester Ship is the first opponent faced to use a Lethal attack "Overload Slam" in which it runs in place with an orange aura before charging, allowing players to block in time.

Trivia

  • "Lethal attack" appears to only be named in-game in the old version of The Awakening (where the Brainiac Overseer must be fought solo by the player and acts as a tutorial for Lethal attacks). It might very well be a generic term and not a proper one, but it is kept as a placeholder. Players also often refer to it as a Skull attack (or 'red skull' or red skull icon') due to the icon having a skull in it.
  • Not all deadly attacks in the game are indicated by the skull icon. However there would always be a distinct visual and/or audible tell like for example a certain movement like raising an arm or saying the same sentence beforehand.
  • In elite content skull attacks must be blocked or sometimes evaded as not reacting properly would mean certain knockout. Exceptions can only be made for skull attacks which aim merely at one player or in a certain direction only.
