- When drawings of Santa Claus in a red and white suit by artist Haddon Sundblom were popularized for The Coca-Cola Company’s Christmas advertising in the 1930s, an urban legend arose that Santa's red and white colours originated from the Coca-Cola brand promotion. This legend is untrue as, historically, White Rock Beverages had previously used a red and white Santa to sell mineral water in 1915 and then in advertisements for its ginger ale in 1923. Earlier still, Santa Claus had appeared dressed in red and white on several covers of Puck magazine in the first few years of the twentieth century.
