- Orthrus is a giant hell hound that lives in the Underworld. He is the leader of the Trio of Hell Hounds.

- Orthrus is one of Hades' hounds who ran wild after his master was betrayed by Ares (during the events of Amazon Fury Part II) and dethroned by Ixion. He is named after the mythological two-headed dog.
- The original Orthrus was Echidna and Typhon's offspring and Cerberus' brother, as well as father of Sphinx and the Nemean Lion. His master was the giant Eurytion, and they worked together as guardians of the famous heard of red cattle that belonged to the three-headed giant Geryon ( Medusa's grandson) in the island of Erytheia. The duo crossed paths with Heracles when he arrived on the island to fulfill his Tenth Labor: obtain Geryon's cattle. They tried to prevent Heracles' theft, who killed both employees and their employer.
