Voivode

  • Note: This section, along with segments where you aid Carol and Indigo-1, were originally part of the challenge but seems to have been removed, possibly due to the length being too long for a challenge.
  • You find Saint Walker battling Voivode, who is holding Atrocitus prisoner. Voivode fights with Dual Wield. A particularly annoying mechanic is her black energy chains which hard stuns (requires button mashing) which can prevent you from avoiding Zombie Bursters that suicide bomb you for massive damage.
  • This fight can be beaten by simply staying away and allowing your NPC allies to do all the work (this is easier to do by letting Voivode KO you first to ensure Kyle and Carol are attacking her). She does not summon mobs if fought this way. As long as you hit Voivode at the end before she is defeated, you gain loot as usual. This works even in elite.
  • Upon defeating Voivode, she regenerates but Saint Walker and Carol Ferris keeps her contained. Atrocitus flies off to confront Nekron alone.

Barriers

  • After defeating Voivode, you meet Sinestro and Larfleeze there is a scripted defeat section - you are told to defend Larfleeze while he maintains a barrier against the zombies to the south, but eventually lots of zombies appear north of the barrier - on your side - and you are told to flee to the north. However, progress in the challenge is achieved by defeating the mobs attacking Larfleeze. The mobs attacking the barrier do not actually reduce the barrier meter. Even if you defeat all the mobs to the south, you are still told to flee. Therefore, do not engage them.
  • There, you meet Saint Walker and Carol again, with a similar barrier mechanic - the barriers' meters are reduced not by mob attacks from outside on the wall, but by you, Indigo-1, and Kyle Rayner defeating mobs on your side. Even if Saint Walker or Carol are KO'd, it does not affect the barrier meter. So again, only fight the mobs inside the barrier until the barrier meter is down, and fall back further north as instructed.
  • Finally, Kyle Rayner will conjure a barrier of his own, although it works slightly differently in that the meter will drop and the wall will come down even if you do not fight, at which point a cutscene starts. Atrocitus appears - and he fires a beam at you, joined by all other corps members, turning you into a White Lantern.

Nekron

  • As a White Lantern, you have unique combos (similar to Brawling melee and Hand Blast ranged) and abilities.
  • Scintillating Blast: Fires 3 orbs in a narrow cone that explodes on targets hit, dealing damage in a small area, and can one-shot basic Zombies and Zombie Bursters. It is not recommended to use weapon attacks because this ability has no cooldown and deals way more damage, and should be spammed constantly as you move forward to mow down the zombies.
  • Luminous Beam: Fires a targeted beam at a single enemy, knocking them back and dealing damage (the knockback can cause them to fall out of range of the damage). This can be used to one-shot Zombie Bloaters and Black Lantern Reavers that take greatly reduced damage from Scintillating Blast.
  • Radiant Nova: Deals damage in an area and knocks back. Scintillating Blast is generally already sufficient, but Radiant Nova can be useful against Reavers while Luminous Beam is on cooldown.
  • Brilliant Chains: Stuns the target and chains to nearby enemies, all are stunned and dealt damage over time. As this is slow, it is not recommended for basic mobs.
  • Life Shield: Shield Power that also heals you a moderate amount.
  • You do not actually have to defeat the huge groups of undead - you can simply fly straight to the boss (supersonic is not available however). Most mobs will ignore you if you are high in the air. Luminous Beam can be used to deal with flying Reavers, and Life Shield prevents them from slowing you down (while other Shield Powers can't be used, Ally: John Constantine's shield on trinket activation may still be useful).
  • You face Nekron and Black Lantern Voivode. It is recommended to defeat Voivode first, because she does not respawn throughout the fight and can be taken out quickly, reducing a lot of pressure from incoming damage. Defeat Nekron for the first time, and you're instructed to hit the black lantern battery. There is only a limited time window to do so before Nekron fully heals himself, and you have to do this again - and Nekron will start summoning mobs and have additional attacks.
  • Dark Bolt: You are prompted to block, which greatly reduces the damage from this attack. During the prompt, you can stun Nekron (e.g. with Brilliant Chains) to cancel his attack. An active Life Shield would act as if you are blocking for this purpose.
  • Dark Blast: Black Lantern symbol appears on floor, after a few seconds it erupts dealing potentially one-shot damage.
  • Nekron only flies in the first stage prior to you defeating him the first time. Mobs are usually focused on your allies but they can generally be taken out fairly easily with Luminous Beam (for straggler Reavers) and Radiant Nova (for zombies and general purpose good area damage). You can also hide on top of the black lantern battery if you need time to recover. Radiant Nova's cooldown is slightly shorter than the time window where you can damage the battery and it hits very hard - so if you time it to use Radiant Nova immediately after it becomes vulnerable, you can squeeze in 2 casts and do substantially more damage.
  • It shouldn't take more than 4-5 Nekron defeats to destroy the battery (try to fight him near the battery so you don't waste precious time going over to it), and the battle is won. Afterwards, Sinestro suggests that you have the power to resurrect Voivode, and you do, and she is overjoyed. Kyle indicates she was acting as Nekron's Black Hand anchoring him, so with her resurrected, Nekron is banished.

Trivia

  • During this challenge, a "You have slain Klaatu!" popup may appear, a reference to Klaatu from the film The Day the Earth Stood Still. The Day the Island Stood Still also refers to this.
  • Prior to becoming a White Lantern, the Black Lantern Reavers tend to ignore the player, and focus on flying back and forth. They would try to return to this routine even when in combat with the player.
