Overview

A Chapter is additional free-to-play story-based content added to DC Universe™ Online. They are a rebrand of the previous concept of Episodes.
Chapters and Episodes are both classified as components of Story Arcs in-game.

Additional content to the game was originally labeled DLC packs and could contain new powers, upgrades and Legends characters besides new playable content. In March 2015 new playable content was relabeled episodes and would no longer feature any other upgrades. DLC or episode packs were included in an active membership or could be bought as single items in the marketplace, until June 2021 when all of the game's content became free to play. In January 2025, new playable content was rebranded as "Chapters".
The rebrand as chapters coincides with the release of " Flashback" content where a previous instance is added to a new chapter, scaled up in CR and giving appropriate rewards.
Although they are no longer numbered in the feats menu, they are sometimes still referred to by inheriting the numbering from episodes; patch notes referred to Fearful Day as "Episode 50".
As of Light and Rain, Chapter 4, all chapters have their plot progression going from the alert/raid to the challenge, the opposite of almost all episodes (with the notable exception of The Death of Superman). Duo content is also absent.
