Overview
- Instance is a term used to describe areas of a MMORPG that are generated when a player or small group of players enters into them. Many copies of an instance can be running at the same time. In DC Universe Online there are the following types of instance.
PVP
- Legends PVP Arenas
PVE
- Iconic Battles. Solo content where a player enters the lair of a established DC hero or villain. Players will be led into these instances by quests but can repeat them for the purpose for getting Solos Feats
- Alert Zones: Balanced around a small group of four people spread throughout the leveling experience starting at level 9.
- There are also end game instances accessible via the On Duty menu. They are available for free to all players, but have certain requirements typically grouped by Tier and Difficulty. Normal difficulty mode instances require Level 30+ and a certain Combat Rating dependent on Tier. Many of these instances are also available in an easier form called Casual difficulty mode for Level 15+ players that have completed their Level 17 Mentor-based Missions. Elite and Elite Plus versions where difficulty and rewards are increased are also available for some instances. The four main types of end game instances are:
- Challenge or Solo zones: single person content
- Duo instances: 2-person content
- Alert instances: 4-person content
- Raid instances: large group content, typically 8-players
- Operations instances are versions of Duos, Alerts, or Raids where accessing multiple instance zones via portal, or similarly traveling to an open-world zone, is required to complete.
