- Adaptive Augments have additional stats for overall content, as well as bonuses for their specific content. There are five types:
- Dominating Augments (purple) are dedicated to improve Dominance and Health, while also providing some extra Power. Recommended for Tank roles.
- Mighty Augments (red) are dedicated to improve Might and Weaponization, while also providing some extra Health and Power. Recommended for Damage roles focused on Superpowers.
- Precise Augments (yellow) are dedicated to improve Precision and Weaponization, while also providing some extra Health and Power. Recommended for Damage roles focused on Weapons.
- Restoring Augments (green) are dedicated to improve Restoration and Power, while also providing some extra Health. Recommended for Healer roles.
- Vital Augments (blue) are dedicated to improve Vitalization and Power, while also providing some extra Health. Recommended for Controller roles.
- Players can equip their augments by accessing the Augments tab in their Inventory menu. Each character has 2 slots dedicated to Adaptive Augments, which are listed under their own subsection. They are listed by item level from highest to lowest, and augments of the same level are listed in alphabetical order.

- When you acquire a new Adaptive Augment, its rank is 0. In order to make the augment stronger and unlock content-specific bonuses, they must be fortified on the Fortify tab in the Inventory menu. They are sorted using the same criteria as the Augments tab, except that any Augment equipped by the player will appear on the top of the list, and maxed out augments won't be listed.
- To advance ranks, Adaptive Augments must be fed Exobytes. Upon reaching a threshold, they can only breakthrough by using content-specific catalysts — they can be acquired from content drops and Omnibus Reward Caches, or they can be bought from episode/chapter vendors or from the broker (if other players are selling them). The higher the rank, the more Exobytes and catalysts are required to rank up. Maxed out Adaptive Augments will have a silver frame around them. Ranking these augments will also unlock specific feats.
- While Adaptive Augments from "Latest Episodes" (the three most recent Episodes or Chapters as shown in the On Duty tab) can only be fed with Exobytes from their specific content, the previously released Augments can be fed with any type of Exobyte. It is also possible to feed Adaptive Augments with other Adaptive Augments, thereby transferring the XP. The fortification rules below provide more detail.
- There are two groupings of Content-Specific Exobytes and Adaptive Augments that limit fortification within each group:
- Latest Episodes - the 3 most recent episodes or chapters; Content-Specific Exobytes from Latest Episodes can only be fed to their own episode's Augments.; Adaptive Augments from Latest Episodes cannot be fed with Exobytes from any other episodes.; Adaptive Augments from Latest Episodes can be fed with other Adaptive Augments from Latest Episodes to indirectly gain Exobyte xp through them, typically with a 50% XP penalty during fortification. (As of the release of The Sins of Black Adam.); Adaptive Augments from Latest Episodes cannot be fed to any of the Adaptive Augments from Earlier Episodes.
- Earlier Episodes- all episodes/chapters earlier than the 3 most recent; Content-Specific Exobytes from Earlier Episodes can be used to fortify Origin Augments and Adaptive Augments from Earlier Episodes.; Adaptive Augments from Earlier Episodes can also be fortified with generic Exobytes.; Adaptive Augments from Earlier Episodes can be fed with other Adaptive Augments from Earlier Episodes to indirectly gain Exobyte xp through them, typically with a 50% XP penalty during fortification.; Adaptive Augments from Earlier Episodes cannot be fed to any of the Adaptive Augments from Latest Episodes.

- Access to the content in question is required and they offer special bonuses within the specific content - although their base stats will still apply outside of it.
- When a character reaches the minimum CR for a specific content, a mission would appear in the journal that can be immediately completed to gain 2 free Adaptive Augment boxes that would allow you to choose 2 Adaptive Augments. Grants have also been used to distribute the initial set of augments.
- As of the release of The Sins of Black Adam, Adaptive Augments from the three most recent episodes ( Legion of Doom, Dark Knights, The Sins of Black Adam) are bought with their specific episode currency (5 each). All those from previous episodes can be bought at episode vendors for 5 Source Marks each (completing the aforementioned mission is not required), and their catalysts may also be bought for various amounts of Source Marks or episode currencies.

- Adaptive Augments have undergone changes over the years:; Initially, four rank bonuses were available requiring dedicated exobytes of Flawed, Solid, and Pristine qualities. The Augments had common rarity at rank 0, and could be leveled to rank 23--which required four different varieties of catalysts to achieve. Precise Augment bonuses would grant +5% Precision and Weaponization Rating. Two Adaptive Augments were rewarded via missions available during an episode release window.; Atlantis episode reduced the variety of catalysts to three.; The Wonderverse episode introduced event-level (weaker) Adaptive Augments and exobytes of Flawless and Timeless qualities. Adaptive Augments now have six rank bonuses available. Precise Augment bonuses would now also grant +4% Precision and Weaponization Rating. Augments missions were replaced by the Grant system.; Long Live the Legion episode's augments had rare rarity at rank 0.; World of Flashpoint episode's augments had artifact rarity at rank 0.; With the Legion of Doom episode, augments now have eight rank bonuses available. Exobytes qualities were reduced to Solid, Pristine, and Flawless. Adaptive Augments had common rarity at rank 0 once again, and could be leveled to rank 28.; With The Sins of Black Adam episode, augments now have seven rank bonuses available.; With Light and Rain: Raging Night, the variety of catalysts and exobytes were reduced to one each.
- While their secondary effects appears to unlock at a low level, Adaptive Augments require much more experience to level up. A regular artifact requires about 40,000 experience to reach level 80 when the first tier is unlocked, while Adaptive Augments vary depending on the CR of the episode: even the lowest CR option, Cybernetic Cores, require a whopping 346,987 experience to reach level 15 to unlock the first effect.
- Game Update 171introduced the following changes to fortification:; To reduce clutter, the Fortify tab no longer displays max-rank artifacts or augments.; Selecting a large stack of reagents will now only insert into the preview as many items as are needed to reach the next Milestone Rank. You can still select the reagents a second time to use the entire stack if you wish.
- Prior to Game Update 172, Adaptive Augments were listed by rank from highest to lowest, and augments with the same rank were listed in alphabetical order.
